Our Campaign

Doctors are leaving NSW public hospitals in droves due to poor working conditions. The Minns Government needs to act now to address doctor shortages and keep patients safe.

OUR CAMPAIGN

Our hospitals are in crisis

NSW deserves to have a word class public health care system in which patients can receive safe, effective and timely care.

Why are doctors leaving NSW?

Doctors are leaving NSW because they are burnt out, undervalue, underpaid and forced to work in unsafe conditions. Without urgent government intervention the mass exodus of doctors leaving NSW will continue and there will be no doctors left to treat those who need them most.

The Minns Government is doing nothing

Doctors on the frontline have been urging the NSW Government to act to address this crisis for years. Despite promises of supporting our public health system, the Minns Government has refused to take any action to keep doctors in NSW.

Hundreds of psychiatrists have resigned, and our public mental health service is crippled- still no action. The Minns Government has now walked away from the negotiation table completely.  Their inaction is putting lives at risks.

What are we asking for?

We want everyone in NSW to be able see a doctor when they need one and have access to safe and high quality medical care.  To do this, we need to be able to recruit more staff to work in our public health services.

Did you know there is no limit on how many hours doctors work, or how many days in a row doctors are on shift without a break?

We can’t recruit more doctors when their working conditions have not been improved for over 30 years, and desperately lag behind all other states and territories. Our Premier Chris Minns knows about this crisis, and is doing nothing.

Premier Minns needs to come to the table and offer improvements. Otherwise, we will continue to see doctors leaving NSW public hospitals. Without enough doctors, we cannot provide the quality care that the people of NSW deserve.

Take action

We need all doctors to take action to support our campaign. We have been left with no other option but to take industrial action. This is the only way we will see real improvements in our working conditions, and the only way we will receive a fair Award. Check out our fact sheet on building an industrial action plan for more information.
